All good diet plans have a LOT in common - sound recommendations for nutrition, hydration, and fitness, and include a maintenance plan for after the weight loss phase. There is no one right solution for every person and no magic cure to weight loss - bottom line it is about calories and exercise. What works is finding a plan or combination of plans that YOU can stick with for a lifetime and that helps you reach your goals in a healthy way. The various theories and plans cover a range of approaches such as: low carb, good carbs vs bad carbs, high protein, glycemic index, supplements, meal timing, food combinations, prepackaged foods or grocery store foods vs organic raw foods or whole foods; cardio vs no cardio, etc. In addition to a weight loss plan, there may be emotional issues or medical issues that also need to be addressed in order to successfully reach your healthy weight and fitness goals.
High protein, low carb diets work, but are hard to maintain long term. Metabolizing protein does require a higher amount of water than carbohydrates or fats, so it’s important to consume a lot of water when on a high protein diet. High protein diets should never be used by any one with kidney problems.
Why do 90% of all diets fail?
Fad diets just flat out don’t work. Diet pills and weight loss over the counter supplements are dangerous. Healthy sound eating plans do work, but often fail because hit a plataeu and give up, lack of support, return to old habits before or once goal is reached.
Those who have succeeded agree — it takes time, it takes commitment, and it is worth it.
