Part 1 HERE.
Here is one recipe made the way the Sudanese do using Hibiscus flowers:
48 oz water, 3 cinnamon sticks (4-inches long) broken up, 2 TB Dried hibiscus flowers, 1 1⁄2-2 TB Honey, to taste. (For a stronger tea add more dried hibiscus.)
Add the dried hibiscus flowers to cold water, soak for two days in the sun and then strain off the liquid. Serve over ice (if desired). For garnish add orange slices and\or mint leaves.
For variations you can also add any of all of the following ingredients to taste: freshly squeezed orange juice; freshly squeezed lime juice; freshly grated orange peel; freshly grated ginger
(Hibiscus contains Vit. C, and is believed to have many healing benefits such as: soothes colds, calms the nerves, and lowers blood pressure.)
There are a few bottled infuses waters on the market that offer various fruity and herbal combinations:
Funkin’ Living: cranberry & echinacea; lemon & siberian ginseng; tangerine & ginkgo biloba;
Arizona Beverages: lemon, orange, peach, raspberry
Jivita Essence Infused Water (located in Hawaii) - coming soon, only their home page is up.
Here is another recipe I thought was rather interesting (and a little odd), but might be worth a try:
Branch Water Recipe - Pinch off the end bright green growth from the outer edges of the branch. Wash thoroughly and put the branch tips in cold water. Place container of water with branch tip in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning you will enjoy the cool taste of mountain fresh water. The branch will flavor the water giving it a refreshing taste. This branch flavored water supplies Vitamin C for you, and pinching off new growth stimulates the tree to grow so all prosper from this simple act. The Branch Water will be good for the week. Replace the branch weekly. Use Evergreens of Spruce, Fir or Pine for different distinctive flavors.
History - “In 1536, while the French explorer Jacques Cariter was wintering in Canada, one hundred of his men were stricken with scurvy. The native Indians knew and suggested a remedy. Drinking water in which pine needles had been soaked. Cariter’s men in desperation followed the seemingly childish suggestion. It cured them of their Scurvy.” Quoted from Intelligent Man’s Guide to Science by Isaac Asimov.
