As I mentioned yesterday, my daugher Angelgirl is happily reading a book, Twilight (Book 1) that Dad got for her this past weekend.
Just from the brief once over I gave it, I am looking forward to reading it after her. I think my best friend, Mama Kelly, and her daughter, Miss Artistic, will enjoy it also. Angelgirl has been grinning from ear to ear because Dad has promised to get all four books in hardcover if she likes this one. The other books in the series are New Moon (Book 2), Eclipse (Book 3)
, and Breaking Dawn (Book 4)
. I think I can safely say, she loves it. The fourth book, Breaking Dawn
, comes out in a few days on August 2nd.
The Twilight Saga has quickly become a favorite teen read, and adults are also discovering it and adding it to their list of favorite books. It is a story of adolescence and the struggles of conflicting emotions with the added twist of vampires and werewolves, combined with action, romance and suspense that captures the imagination.
I’m very excited to have discovered this series of books because it isn’t often that a parent gets to share in something that also excites their child. Similar to the cross over with the Harry Potter Books 1-7 that are loved by both kids and adults, Twilight
offers the opportunity to enjoy an exciting reading adventure together. With Harry Potter, I ended up being a bigger fan than my daughter. She liked the books, but I loved them. However, with this series I can see the excitment in her eyes, and The Twilight Saga
is definitely going to be a big hit around here for a long time to come. Angelgirl hasn’t finished the fist book yet, and she is already excitedly talking about and looking forward to the movie and the 5th book which will be the first story but told from the perspective of a different character – how cool is that!
I definitely gives this series four halos.
Happy reading, Lady Rose

Thank you for the overview on these books. My now 8 year old son has read pretty much all the goosebumps and started a few more series based books. He is working on The Shack by William Young and I think I might suggest this series to him when we go to the book store again.
I always check my checking account before our trips as they generally pull $80 to $100 each time.
Regarding Harry Potter my son lost interest in those once they started making movies. He still does not want to see Nims Island until he reads the book as he likes the previews and is excited. I think that bookstore trip is coming really soon.
His birthday party is next weekend maybe that will be a good time.

She finished the book in two days! and that is a big book. We have the release party on our calendar and will most likely go (but not in costume). If we had more time to prepare and she had been a fan for awhile, and I had read them mostly likely we’d be dressing up. We dressed up in costume to see the Harry Potter movie – that was a lot of fun.

i’ve read all of the Twilight books except of course the one that hasn’t come out yet. i feel like one of the only people in the world that didn’t jump on this huge bandwagon. and i wouldn’t let my daughter read it (not like she’s old enough yet but still…). i guess i don’t like romance books but i also have strong opinions about the whole relationship thing and how healthy it is for young girls to think that a relationship of that depth is appropriate at that age! i mean, she doesn’t even have nor want any sort of life outside of Edward! Scary!
However, for all of you who are on the bandwagon, my girlfriend Kelly is there with you. And she is creating the cutest bookmarks that are themed for each of the books and has them in her etsy shop which can be accessed from her site. She’s at http://www.sansomfamily.com. Do you wear your “Team Edward” shirt like she does? lol

Hi Amy thanks for stopping by andcommenting.
I hestitated a little about the book because I didn’t know that much about it – but hubby skimmed through it and bought it for her, and he’s stricter then I am – so I trust his instincts about it. I am looking forward to reading it and I may or not get on a bandwagon but I figure I will enjoy discussing the book with my daughter either way – because it will give us a different context to discuss topics (like boyfriends and relationships) in a more relaxed way, rather then just as mother-daughter which could sometimes lead to confrontation or going in one ear and other the other.

Sounds like a series my daughter would enjoy, but not sure about the ‘romance/relationship’ thing as she’s just turning 12 years and isn’t interested in boys as anything but casual friends. So not sure how she would react to the subject.

I just got this for my adult sister for her birthday and she read it in three days! I’m so glad I got her the second book too, LOL. It’s the first time I’ve gotten excited about a new book in a while and can’t wait to get a copy for myself.

Lea – if you read the book first, you can decide she might like it, or wait a couple years and then give it to her.
Suzie – I just started reading it last night, only a few pages so far, seems pretty good so far.

Loved these books! And also bought The Host by Stephanie Meyer but haven’t read it yet. While the Twilight series is for “young adults” (though I didn’t even realize that while reading them), The Host is her first book for adults. Looking forward to it

Saphrym – since we only recently discovered this series, I don’t need to preorder, but we may be going to the release party!
Vanessa – Thanks for the heads up on The Host – will add that to my wishlist (and be sure to tell mydaughter she will have to wait a couple years before she can read it!)

Wish I could go to the release party. I really loved the series. “The Host” was good too. Parts of it move a little slow, but that’s balanced by how much you learn about the characters.
