Dieting for Health – NOT vanity.  I am listing here all the reasons I can think of for now, so on days when I can’t think of one good reason to not just toss in the towel and give up, I can refer back to this list to keep me going. When the tummy begins to rumble and the cravings start to gnaw, I will drag myself to this list and read it over and over until my good sense kicks back in and I can make a healthy choice for food.

I want to get healthy and eat for fuel:

  • To stop feeling totally exhausted and in pain, I want to feel healthier and have more energy
  • Feel stronger and more confident
  • Be better able to respond to an emergency situation
  • Be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath
  • Do more things with my daughter
  • Play more and enjoy more activities
  • Wear nice clothes (nothing fancy, just not 1X – 3X, I’d settled for extra large)
  • Be able to wear shorts and a bathing suit again
  • Not have to ask for a seat belt extender on an airplane
  • Not have to squeeze into a movie theater seat
  • Not rip out the seams of all my pants
  • Not stretch out the elastic in all my underwear
  • Not have to buy bigger and bigger clothes every few months
  • Not have my thighs rub together and chafe
  • Not have people poke fun at, ignore me, and all the other socially embarrassing situations encountered by people who equate being overweight with being lazy, or overindulgent, or stupid, etc.
