My best friend Mama Kelly posted about this (Teens Selling Sex To Help Homeless) on our other blog yesterday and I was speechless - but not for long. I just had to post about it here also, because it is so wrong on so many levels I am not even sure where to begin.
First off, let me just say I am not a prude. Heck if I had that body for it, I’d be more then willing to strip for charity. Our bodies are natural and beautiful.
But the difference here, even though they say you have to be 18 - we all know that some of these teens are going to lie about their age. And even at 18, it is NOT safe to have this type of video up on the web, (even if it’s only stripping down to a bathing suit).
“Strip2Clothe,” with the tagline, “You take off yours, we donate ours, ” is asking young people to post videos of themselves stripping to music. In exchange, clothing companies would provide donations of new clothes based on the number of times the videos were viewed. From the Minneapolis Star Tribune
Strip2Clothe is sponsored by VirginMobile who will donate “a new piece of clothing” for every video uploaded and a donation for every 5 video views as well as for text messages sent in.
I am totally supportive of their intentions to help the homeless. And they get points for having come up with a creative campaign. I guess as a mom I just can’t wrap my brain around the idea of young teens striping in front of a camera and then uploading it on a website. Perhaps my age is finally showing, and I’m not as “cool” or “hip” as I once was.
As a nation of creative, caring individuals I would like to believe we could find better ways to help get clothes to those in need without having to resort to using “sex” to promote the idea and exploiting young teens striping. I would like to believe that there are other creative ways to inspire teens to get involved and help others.
What are your thoughts and opinions? Would you let your kids post a video? Would you watch or text message to help them raise donations?

Yeah I don’t like the sounds of that. The internet is becoming a real hazard to our youth. What ever happened to selling candy bars? lol

Or maybe “helping the homeless” is just an excuse for a sex-fest?
I don’t know why this sort of thing should surprise anyone. Our culture is going the way of ancient Rome in becoming more and more debased. And like Rome, we’re falling.

Pretty strange stuff for sure.
I just wonder who thought up this mess?
Don’t these companies care about the image that they are creating by going along with this craziness?
I’m with Chef Tom, bring back the candy bars and the raffle tickets for a car wash, Please.

omg. what’s the world coming to? however good the cause is, i still believe that such a thing is unacceptable. and why teens? like, these clothing companies have fetishes or something? if they are indeed serious in raising money to help the homeless, they would create a project that’s decent enough. you know the saying “the end doesn’t justify the means.” oh, this is oh-so-true for this one..
