I had never heard of the term ”mircosleep” before, but I think that is how I have been surviving through most of my days all these years. On a whim I did a search “breaking the world record for no sleep” and found an aritcle at A Moment of Science, on the record for sleep. Here is an excerpt from the article on what can happen when a person goes a long time without sleep:
can result in hallucinations and the loss of cognitive and motor functions. This is because our brains grab sleep automatically when we get tired enough..hallucinations are actually bits of dreaming and are part of brief episodes of sleeping known as microsleep…[there are] no recorded cases of people dying due to sleep deprivation itself [except if they microsleep while driving a car], and ultimately scientists don’t know exactly how long humans can stay awake.
So why was I looking up the world record for lack of sleep, because it’s been at least 15 years or longer since I’ve slept through the night and today is one of those days that I’m really really really tired. I am really tired every single day, but some days are far worse then others.
I can sleep any where, any time. I have no problem getting to sleep. I’ve slept through an earthquake (while on vacation in Egypt). I’ve slept through my (old) house almost being on fire (my sister lived upstairs and called while I was asleep to say there was smoke coming from the other apartment upstairs and I just said ok, hung up and rolled over still asleep). I have even slept through a huge riot that took place in front the building we lived in a few decades ago when we lived in a very rough, small town with a lot of bars located near an army base.
But the one thing I can not sleep through is a full bladder. I am up at least 3 times during the night to use the bathroom on a good night. But some nights are not so good and I am up 5 or 6 times. When then happens I go from being tired all day, to being totally groggy and almost unable to function. The one thing I am grateful for though is at least in this house (we moved here 6 years ago) - the bathroom is only a few steps from the bedroom.
Hopefully tonight I can get at least 4 (**fingers crossed** maybe even 5) house of sleep interrupted by only 2 or 3 trips to the bathroom.
(And before you ask, no I don’t drink anything before I go to bed. After 6 p.m. I don’t have any liquids or food.)

I bet the frequency of bathroom trips is caused by your diuretics. I get up 2-3 times at night but I drink a boat load of water everyday. I’m sorry about your sleep issues. That must play havoc with your energy, stress levels, and more. Have you tried any herbal remedies for it?

I hope that you finally get some sleep. I had an episode of this once. I was having a conversation, fell asleep, and then picked up the conversation where I left off.

Ahhh sleep. I’m still catching up from when I was 14, 15, and 16. I did meth heavily for those three years. I once went for 5 days without sleep. I also didn’t leave the house. Since I stopped using drugs when I got pregnant at 16 I haven’t slept a full night. The most I sleep at a time is 5 hours. I think it hinders my weight loss some.
