Weight: 242.5 Lost 4.5 lbs
Nice to see a little loss, but I know better then to get too excited (after all a huge overnight weight gain could happen again at any time).
I made sure I didn’t do too much physically to help get the inflammation to lessen and doubled my aspirin intake. I usually take 2 to 4 every day, but for now I’m back up to 6 to 8 a day (which is the dosage the doctor’s had me take since early childhood to cope with the rhuematoid arthritis).
Food this week since Tuesday: Daily 1 medifast bar and 3 packets of medifast and 1 apple (substituted for one packet (total 550 calories), dinners for all but one night - 150 calorie piece of salmon (individually frozen) and half bag of frozen veggies broccoli (75 calories), plus cup of coffee (50 calories for sugar free creamor) in the morning and 4 celery stalks midafternoon (50 calories). Daily total: I had steamed chicken and mixed veggies (broccoli and califlower mix). For Angelgirl’s birthday on Thursday she wanted Chinese takeout. That night I got the steamed chicken and mixed veggies - plain, nothing on it. The serving of chicken I’m sure was more then 150 calories and the veggies were probably more too - so I estimate by doubling the calories.
The apple is not allowed when following the Medifast program, but without it I truly start craving something fresh and crunchy so I decided to substitute just one apple for a packet. I’m not following the program to the letter. I am using up the packets I have so I don’ t waste the money, plus it’s a good way to get be back to being 100% portion control and close to 900 calories a day. I have enough for about two weeks more.
My mom spoke with her cardiologist this week. I had asked to talk to him about my symptoms and the advice my doctor and cardiologist had given me. She said he wanted to see me immiediately (next week) and that gaining 9 lbs over night and 16 lbs in a week from exercising, followed by several more weeks of gaining for no reason, should definitely be checked out. At least I know I’m not totally crazy for thinking the same thing. While I appreciate his offer to see me so quickly, unfortunately I can’t do it - I need my insurance to cover the cost and that means jumping through some hoops first.
The rapid weight gain seems to have stopped for now (thank goodness), so I don’t think it’s a “dire” emergency situation. I can’t just rush out and switch doctors any way. First I have to find a new general practioner who has this cardiologist within their referral “circle” - then I have to contact my insurance company to make the change. Then I’d need to get an appointment with the general practioner first - which could take weeks, and I’d have to have a health reason for the appointment. Then I’d have to convince the new general practioner that I needed a referral to a cardiologist and hope that he or she would honor my request to see the one my mother goes too. Add on top of that all the paperwork requried to get my records transferred. It’s all way to much for me to deal with right now and could a few months any way.
I might give my doctors one more chance and see how things go with my next appointment. I see my cardiologist in Oct. But I will start asking around and looking into what options I have for general practioners.
In the meantime I will keep my food intake very light as usual, I will do my best to keep my inflammation and water weight gain down, and focus on enjoying each day with my family, sharing hugs and laughter.
