Weight: 241 Gain 14 lbs
The gain was within two days. I checked the scale two days ago and it was the same as last week. I knew I had gained some because I had felt the “water bags” under my arms swelling and under my ribs is bloated and sore (liver perhaps? I have several cysts of the liver but doctor has told me it’s nothing to worry about). I was surprised it was so much of a gain though.
I’ve mentioned these rapid weight gains to my general practioner (last fall) and my cardiologist (last month), both just stare at me and tell me to eat less and how hard it is to lose weight. It could just be my imagination, but from the look in their eyes it feels like they don’t believe me. I feel like they are thinking ”The old fat lady must be stuffing herself with pizza and cupcakes.”
Everything I’ve read about this kind of rapid weight gain says it’s serious and recommend contacting a doctor, but I know the internet is not the best source of medical advice. Both my doctors know I have congestive heart failure, and they don’t seemed worried about it, so I am not going to worry either.
The weight gain could just be the way my body works. I’ve gained weight before from air, and I’ve even tested it several times and gained weight just from smelling foods too. All I can do is continue eating my plain oatmeal, veggies and fruit and hope for the best. The quality of my life is not dependant on the numbers of the scale.

Oh hun - how frustrating! And how uncomfortable!!
I wish I could come down today and give you a big hug instead of going in to work to call idiots.
Next time you come down we’ll make my “miracle soup”. It really seemed to help the water weight last time I made it … maybe itll jump start something again.

Oh wow, I know how frustrating that is. The meds you are on could be causing it. I know a woman who does WW, and gains every other week due to water pills. I’d suggest trying another doctor. Maybe have your thyroid checked?

Hypothyroidism can cause weight gain like that. If nothing has changed in the way you eat. Then I would get your thyroid checked. I have hypothyroidism and I have found a product that actually helps me with losing weight

Have you had your thyroid checked? I’ve been dealing with thyroid problems that went undiagnosed for at least a year and weight gain was one of the symptoms. When I cried to my doctor about the weight gain and thinking there was something wrong with my thyroid, he gave me the “eat less, move more” speech. Turns out, I was right. I have Hashimotos disease. Low thyroid also causes heart problems, so it’s worth checking.
(I have to admit, this is the first post I’ve read of yours so forgive me if I’m way off base here.)

I’ve had standard thryoid tests done years ago - it’s probably time to check again. It just takes some emotional and mental preparation to be able to stand up to the disbelieving stares and resistance of the doctors — I also need to have my c-protein levels (I think that is what it is) checked to see how bad the inflammation is. Last couple visits though I chickened out. It probably time I take someone with me who will block the door and not let me leave till ask the doctor for the tests I need.
Thanks for your advice and support, it is very much appreciated.

Wow Lady Rose, if I had lost 90 pounds and then gained nearly half of it back while eating less than 1000 calories a day, I’d be on the doctor’s doorstep and would refuse to leave until they sorted it out. Thyroid as others have suggested is a possibility and Syndrome X is another possibility if you’re an apple and crave sweets. That’s my downfall.
The most difficult thing for all of us is to keep on going when we don’t see progress. One of the diet books I got for clearing out my fatty liver says that even though the weight doesn’t look like it’s coming off, your body is still changing. I cling to that.
