Another Friday has rolled around, it’s time to pause and appreciate the week just past.
The Good - We survived another whirl wind, very busy week. Angelgirl got both of her very big homework projects done on time. ***phew, wipes brow***
One project was creating an index card for every letter of the alphabet with a corresponding Word and Picture related to Greek history, and include three facts about the Word (who, what, where, etc.). This project took all night Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, and even some of Monday night to complete. Teacherman and I helped with things like coloring in big areas of the drawings, looking up information on the web (I used the laptop and he used the desktop computer). Angelgirl did all the writing and drawing herself, sifting through the materials we found on the web and books she had. Half of the cards could have had cut out graphics (according to the directions), but Angelgirl wanted to draw all of them - which was one of the reasons for the project taking so long. Instead of 5 minutes to cut and paste, she wanted everything to look great and drew lots of pictures in detail. We managed to convince her to do a few cut and paste. Did you know there is no Y in the Greek alphabet, we didn’t and spent hours trying to find a Y Greek word. Once we found out that were none, she chose Years and gave the historical dates for the different periods of ancient Greek history. And X took forever to find a word for, finally came up with Xanthus (talk about finding obscure Greek facts!)
Her second project was a “how-to” presentation for the class. She had to come up with a “how-to-do” something, write out the directions and present it to the class. If it was a food then there had to be enough for everyone to have some. If it was an art project there had to be enough for everyone to do the project. We discussed lots of ideas, but 95% of them were either to complicated or not something that could be done for everyone in the class. In the end, she wanted to do smoothies, but we managed to convince her that would be too messy to pour for the class and they are only good cold and there was no way to a container of smoothie made and delivered to her school classroom in time for the presentation (since we both work full time). She finally decided on making chocolate covered strawberries. So off to the store we went and spent an entire evening typing up directions (with photos and nice fonts and colored text picked out by Angelgirl) and then hand dipping 3 dozen large strawberries.
Let me just say by the end of it all I wanted to shoot the teachers. These homework projects are an enormous amount of work for the parents as well, even though Angelgirl did the actual work there are still supplies and logistics to figure out too (like how to get 3 dozen chocolate covered strawberries to school without being crushed or melted). I was totally exhausted. To have two in one week was a bit overwhelming for us, I can only imagine how it felt for Angelgirl. I really wish teachers would coordinate big projects like this to stagger them. On top of all that, this was the week the school play opens, so Angelgirl had a lot of extra rehearsals too. And she was also preping for some big Math test this week. But Angelgirl is just awesome and she came through the week with flying colors. We pampered her bit and made sure to keep everything else calm and running smoothly to help her get through it all.
The Better - the hectic week is over and we survived! Tonight we have tickets to see the school play Angelgirl is in, and we are very excited.
Sunday I will be phone conferencing with the person I am working on a book project with. I’m very excited because it has been months since I heard from him and I just figured the book had been shelved. I finished it at the end of last summer (2007) and in the fall it went to someone for editing. So it looks like the project is back on! **fingers crossed** There is still more work to be done, but it’s just exciting knowing that there is a possibility that project may actually get done and out there.
I can tell the new medication (increased dose of diuretic) from the cardiologist is helping. I have a bit more energy, I’m sleeping a bit better, and I did peek at the scale this morning and was very pleased - but I don’t want to jinx anything. My weighin day is Saturday, and I know that with my body anything can happen even in just one night, so I will wait until tomorrow to “officially” write down what the scale says then.
The Tempting - I managed to resist sampling any of the chocolate covered strawberries, even though there were plenty of left overs and one’s that didn’t come out nice enough (according to Angelgirl) to be included in the ones for her class. I didn’t even lick the chocolate off my fingers once! I kept a papertowel on the counter and used it any time I got chocolate on my fingers as we dipped.
It was a pretty awesome week overall.
Health and Happiness to all, Lady Rose
