Can you devote just ONE HOUR to helping the Earth?
Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming. On 29 March 2008, at 8:00 pm, wherever you are in the world, turn off all lights for one hour.
Check out the official site, Earth Hour, where you can:
- Sign up for Earth Hour 2008
- Get involved and create a bigger, better Earth Hour
- Reduce your impact on climate change
- Create your own Earth Hour event
- Know your footprint and challenge your friends
- Buy an Earth Hour T-shirt to show your support
I might also suggest that while turning off your lights, you also turn off the TVs and the computers. Find something fun and interesting to do without lights or other electrical devices - talk with the family, hug your family, invite friends over for a candlelight snack and a chat, go for a walk, take a nap, have a romantic date with your spouse or significant other.
Mark the date on your calendar and give just one hour of your time for Mother Earth, She does so much for us.

I would end up on the floor in the fetal position if I had to willingly give up access to the internet for even an hour.
However, I will turn off all the other lights in the house so I can partake in it, even if just a little.

That means I will use the battery of my laptop for that hour. Haha! But you know waht? I really since childhood wonder how long present day men can last without electricity. There was a time when a super typhoon destroyed the electrical supply to my town. We have no lost electricity for 2 months. We still live. And I was happy to know that we can actually live without electricity.

In South Africa we receive power from a state owned power supplier. These guys are currently experiencing serious problems in that the demand for power has far outstripped the supply. They have implemented a scheme called ‘load shedding’ to alleviate the problem. On most days we have no power for periods of up to 2 hours. I reckon I will not have to switch off for the mentioned hour, the government will in all probability do it for me.
