NOTE: this is my first fatblogging post which started out as a free wordpress blog named “Incredible Shrinking Ladies” (co-authored with my best friend Mama Kelly) - since starting my own blog (April 1, 2007) and moving to my own domain all content from the free blog has been moved here.
Greetings everyone and welcome to my blog.
I will be “blogging a weigh” on my journey to living healthier and losing weight, with all the good, the bad, and the ugly — nothing will be hidden. This will be real life reality unfolding right before your eyes — blogging naked (honest weighins), blog raw (only the truth), the ups and downs of life and the scale. A slice of real life drama and comedy unfolding right before your eyes, with a dash of rants, a seasoning of advice, a dallop of sage wisdom, and a sprinkling of humor.
I have decades of yo-yo dieting experience, but this time I will be trying a new approach - a healthy eating plan along with writing the humor and drama of facing the monumental goal of losing over 150 lbs once and for all, in a world that is filled with chocolate, pizza, ice cream and other temptations.
One final time (and this time for sure), I’m going to get healthy and active. At age 50 - my goals are not to fit into a bikini or to be a perfect size 10. I just want to be able to walk without pain, to not be out of breath from just walking to my car, and to be able to play more and enjoy life with my daughter (who will turn 10 in May 2006) and my husband.
My ideal goal is to be a healthy 140 lbs (but it’s not written in stone) - this is a reasonable goal for my age (51) and height (5′4″), and one my doctor and nutritionist suggested (instead of my original goal of 120 lbs, which is what I was always aiming for way back when I was 13 trying to lose 5 to 10 pounds). At this point I would be grateful to see 180 or 190 - which is the weight I managed to reach on my previous diet (it ended early 2005 after I had reached a plateau for months and eventually gave up). Another reasonable goal would be 155 lbs, which is the weight I was on my wedding day Sept. 1, 1991 (it took me years on perscription diet pills to get to that weight). However, the healthy goal of 140 lbs is what I’m shooting for eventually, it can always be adjusted later on.
Tomorrow, May 1st, is the first day of my healthy eating plan. I have said my farewells to some of my favorite foods and saying farewell to them forever (there are certain foods that I’m addicted too so I plan on giving them up for good until I can safely allow a taste now and then). I have set up my plan for what I will eat, done the shopping and also mentally prepared myself to think positive and stay focused (an on going process but at least I’ve started). This is a permanent lifestyle change - no more “diet” - instead a healthy approach to eating and getting fit.
I will be working with my new primary doctor, who I saw this past Friday. I’ve heard good things about her and hoping she will be supportive and helpful in my efforts to address some of my health issues and lose weight, instead of dismissing me as just being a fat old woman as my previous doctors have done (about 10 years ago one doctor told me to just give up, I’d never be lose weight).
Be sure to bookmark this blog to follow along as my adventure contines — you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and hopefully be entertained and perhaps even find something inspiring, or a useful tip, recipe or resource, to help you along your journey to getting healthy.
