(Thurs. 13 edition 1) I’ve been blogging for almost 2 years now (first post: Introduction) and folks have often asked me why to do I blog. I decided it was time to come up with a few (silly and good) reasons.
13 Reasons To Blog
13. Change the world (save the earth)
12. Save the trees, blogging rather then using the traditional type journal with paper pages (a page)
11. Collect and share large quantities of daily life trivia, (a slice of life)
10. Examine the nuances of every thought (a thought)
9. Self indulgence in mental masturbation and verbal wordplay, (an example)
8. Unlimited ranting on various topics (soapbox)
7. Reveal secrets and truths (blog raw)
6. An outlet for the voices in one’s head (rambling)
5. Cheap therapy (are you happy?)
4. Listen to the sound of one’s own typing (tap, tap, tap)
3. Large circle of friends don’t have to send cards to or buy gifts for (a blogroll instead of a xmas list)
2. 15 minutes of fame (my claim to fame)
1. Change one’s self (one small change at a time)
Of course blogging is also FUN. I’m sure there are many, many, many more reasons to blog. What are your reasons for blogging?

It is so hard to explain to people why I blog. I’ve never been great about keeping a journal. I don’t like to handwrite and I type like the wind. Somehow the “pressure” to blog for my audience inspires my creativity and the writing is SO therapeutic for me. I think in the end, bloggers will live longer because we have a healthy outlet for our rants, irritations and thoughts.

I love your TT list…a good question to ponder! I will have to try out all your links in a second!
Why do I blog? Oh …well…it’s a form of therapy, it’s getting me over writers block, it’s enabled me to say things that i would never have said to someone face to face and I’ve found it a great way to be in touch with people all over the world.
I can’t imagine ever stopping really.

About half of those reasons apply to me now. When I started in Jan, it was all about the experience so I could use it in a short story about a woman who leaves comments on a hot model’s blog. Now, it’s an outlet for the energy and ideas that I don’t expend on the Bar Story (a paranormal serial story that I write with 7 other writers.) Happy TT!

This is a marvelous idea for a T-13 that I might borrow sometime in the future. I’ve bookmarked the page so I can return and read the links when time permits, but I’m crunched for time right. My Weight Watcher meeting is in 40 minutes and I’m meeting friends to celebrate my birthday (a couple of days early) afterwards. Great idea for a TT. I’m still trying to figure out why I blog. When people I know in real life mention reading my blog, I still feel slightly uncomfortable. Do I really want to share my slightly off brain with people I have to see in person? Do I want them to know I’m not perfect (like they have any perception that I am in the first place!)? What if they don’t like something they read? Aacck, such a people pleaser sometimes.
Maybe that’s why I blog, for a completely selfish reason, just to express whatever I want whenever I want. And it’s an outlet for writing. There ya go, that one sounds less egocentric.

I blog because I love, love, love playing with my page lay-out. I’ll spend days absorbed in the template code, playing in PhotoShop creating new headers and titles, or searching the Internet for graphics and new ideas. It’s definitely the visual part of blogging I like the best. Oh, yeah and I enjoy writing too!

Those are great reasons to blog. I started my blog when my husband was deployed to Iraq for 15 months. We have two little babes that I could post about on a daily basis so he could still keep up with them. By the time he got back in Dec07, I was hooked!
