I am changing my goal officially (see near top of right side bar under photo) from a goal of healthy weight of 140 lbs to a long term goal of Living Healthy to 100 and beyond.
Who wants to join me in setting their goal for a Fabulous, Awesome, Tenacious and Healthy life (a.k.a. F.A.T. Attitude) instead of worrying over numbers on the scale?
Dropping a few pounds and becoming more active are still a part of the plan of course, but I wanted a visual reminder that my overall goal is HEALTH - not some number on the scale. It is my re-commitment to long term goals and reminding myself of what is truly in important in life.
Being healthy includes emotional and spiritual wellness too (not just weight), which is why my focus, goals, and blogging include more then just diet tips and weighins (for example: incorporating the new blog raw posts). The numbers on the scale are just a number reading on a tool, nothing more - the more important numbers I’ll be paying attention too are my blood pressure reading.
Also I’ve been reading up more on some information that backs up my food plan (mostly veggies, fruits, and whole grains). Focusing on a diet that is low calorie, but packed with good nutrition, adequate in vitamins, minerals, etc., might be one key to living a longer and healthy life.
A one-year study published in the July 2007 issue of the American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism found” that both calorie restriction (consuming 20 percent fewer calories) and exercise (expending 20 percent more calories) lowered bad (LDL) cholesterol, raised good (HDL) cholesterol levels, and improved insulin resistance, but ONLY calorie restriction led to significant declines in risks associated with heart disease and heart attacks.” Source: MSNBC health article. Since I’m dealing with congestive heart failure issues, this is something I will be reading up on a bit more.
I’ve added these three books to my wish list too so I can learn even more ways to eat healthy and get lots of nutrients:
Beyond the 120 Year Diet: How to Double Your Vital Years.
The Anti-Aging Plan: The Nutrient-Rich, Low-Calorie Way of Eating for a Longer Life .
The Longevity Diet
For some good tips on living longer, one of my favorite bloggers, Catherine, has a good post on Health Tips for a Longer Life, on her blog Be the change you want to see in yourself.
