Weight 214.5

Lost 20 lbs of the 40 lbs of fluid retention weight gained over the last couple weeks.   I’m feeling much better, my face is looking normal again and I can actually bend my knees without pain.  In my left knee the swelling is down 2 inches (19.5 inches) – last week it was 22.5 inches (a half inch bigger then my head).

I still have another 20 lbs to lose to get back to my low weight on 194.5 (week 84), so I can start to make some headway again for overall weight loss – but what matters most is HEALTH not the numbers of the scale.  I’m just grateful the rapid weight gain from fluid retention has stopped and is improving.

I have my appointment with the cardiologist next Friday for a stress tests, couple weeks later ecocardiogram, and then after that a sit down discussion of the tests results.  These tests are an annual followup to the one’s I had last year (back then they got me off the stress within minutes because my heart seemed to be in distress – I hope to do much better this time).   I will discuss with her what happened (gaining 19 lbs in just two weeks, and a steady weight gain each week before that even though I was eating healthy).

I have a feeling she is going to tell me to NOT over do it with exercise ever again.  I had been pushing myself, taking the stairs a lot, in response my body kept swelling with fluid (probably due to the high blood pressure) and lots of overall inflammation too, and my knees really flared up and swelled also because of the rhuematoid arthritis.  I will be discussing with my cardiologist what I can do safely to get some exercise.  Even if I can’t exercise enough to help with weight loss, I want to do something to improve the health of my heart.

All this year I have seen her every couple months – each and every time she has been 100% behind my weight loss efforts and told me what ever I’m doing KEEP DOING IT!  I have shown her my food plan and my supplement plan (and will show her the added herbal supplements I started last week also).  Her advice has been all year – get the weight OFF no matter what.  Because of the weight I have lost previously (before these past few weeks of fluid retention weight gain) she has been able to reduce my medication and my heart risks are also improving (note: my starting weight 93 weeks ago was 293.5 lbs).

I am on blood pressure medicine – that includes a diuretic.   After what happened with the fluid retention my cardiologist may want to up the dosage, but I want to discuss with her using more natural methods first – such as the dandlelion root supplement I am taking this week and seems to be helping.  NOTE:  I am taking a very very very low dosage (1/2 of what the bottle suggests).  I am only using it until the excess fluid is gone.  Diuretcs are NOT for weight loss.  I am not taking it to lose fat – but my body was expanding and in pain from fluid.  I do NOT in any way suggest any one else should take any thing.  Every person is unique and should work with their doctor to determine the best health plan and food plan for themselves.

At 52 years old my main goal is to feel good and be healthy.  I do truly promote for myself and others putting your HEALTH first and not just focusing on any number read on the scale.

Food this week:  oatmeal (plain just water and a sprinkle of cinnamon with a splash of vanilla extract) with a TBL of Salba (powerhouse grain with tons of nutrients, 32 calories), apples, celery, cucumbers, small amount of low fat ranch dressing, baby carrots, couple times this week: a few ounces of salmon, few ounces of boneless skinless chicken breast, activa yogurt (70 calories).     Note: I keep my calories low – but choose foods that are whole and nutritious – and my food plans have always been approved by my doctor.  I do NOT advocate any one else following it.
