If Mississippi lawmaker Republican Rep. John Read of Gautier had his way they just might be able to.
No one is suppose to be offended by his proposal for the new law to govern who restaurants could and could not serve based on their weight, because he “was [just] trying to shed a little light on the number one problem in Mississippi,” (“More than 30 percent of adults in Mississippi are considered obese, according to a 2007 study by the Trust for America’s Health, a research group that focuses on disease prevention.”)
A Democrat Steve Holland of Plantersville (The state House Public Health Committee chairman), said he is going to ’shred’ the bill. **three cheers for the democrat**

How do you feel? Does a proposal like this for a law to force restaurants to “police” their customers food intake offend you (even if it was just done to make a point)?
I think I’m a tiny bit offend, and if I lived in Mississippi I’d be a bit angry too that my state officials were wasting tax payer’s money on something this. I know there is a health problem in the U.S. as far as weight is concerned, but please there are much better ways to deal with it then “making a point” with a proposed law like this.

To be honest with you, I just don’t like the idea.
I get the idea behind it I guess but ok – I see no reason to alienate obese people any more than they already have to deal with.
Will restaurants closing the doors to them be one of the magic answers?
please – no one sits around saying “I wish to be obese and these restaurants are my enablers”
People are free to make their choices
How about those restaurants offer delicious healthy alternatives and splay THOSE pics all around
yeesh
lol.. sorry this is almost a rant. just almost.

This is absolutely ridiculous. It violates the rights of the people. I understand their point, but it is offensive and quite out of line to overstep their boundaries to tell people what they can and cannot eat. Tsk, tsk.

This is just the next step for the polititions to collect tax money to buy more votes. They already did it with cigarettes, banned smoking just about everywhere and taxed the $%^&* out of them “for the children”. Food is just next in line. Watch and you will see a Big Mac tax. It’s all just part of government trying to run or lives.
Just think of universal health care. If you don’t follow their guidelines to their way of thinking about wealthy living and eating they can and probably deny you benefits.

Sadly Mississippi Democrats have a very poor Human Rights history and I am amazed they would even try this.
I am sure many good people in Mississippi are also shocked. Will surely make many change to Democrat?

What a stupid way to try to promote healthy changes–even if it’s just a publicity stunt. Why demoralize the very people you’re trying to reach out to by discriminating against them and stigmatizing them? I think it’s an abuse of the legislative process and this guy sounds like an ass.

This bill did not pass. It turns out the three congressmen who proposed the bill knew it would never pass – they were trying to attract attention that Mississippi has the highest obesity rate.

Of course legislation like this should never be tolerated. People have a right to live any way the choose and make their own decisions.
But get a load of this…this is what it would be like if we let Big Brother take over and legislation just like that above take hold…
