I just wanted to let every one know that I will no longer be posting at Fatbloggers.net.
They are an awesome bunch of guys who are truly doing a great job getting healthy and dropping some unwanted pounds, as well as being supportive and inspiring to everyone. I enjoyed being a part of something truly amazing and I thank them for the opportunity. {{{big virtual hug to each and every one}}} Know that you have my support on your journey no matter what.
As of Feb. 5, 2007, they have decided that my posting there is no longer welcome because they feel I do not represent someone who is promoting a healthy lifestyle (because of my post Weighin Week 92 I cross posted there). I respect their opinion and of course it is their right to manage their blog.
I will miss being a part of their awesome supportive group, but I totally understand how my situation and health issues can be misunderstood. I truly do seek health and a healthy lifestyle - not just some stupid number on a scale or whacky diet solution, but I don’t feel like I need to justify myself or convince any one else so I will keep my post brief.
I just want to clarify a few things and address a few concerns that were raised in the comments to my last post at fatbloggers.net. I do truly appreciate the concern, truly I do. I just want to clear up a few things so no one needlessly worries. (UPDATE: As of 2/9/08 the post over there has been removed, and so has any trace of my contributions over the past several months. I am sorry they have such hard feelings about the situation. But totally understand that a woman’s health issues do not fit into the focus of their blog.)
It was suggested that I see a real doctor - I have said time and time again - I DO SEE A DOCTOR (a real one, with a real medical degree too). The last time I saw her was about two months ago - she told me to exercise till I was ready to pass out for an hour a day! And that I was doing fine food wise. Every single DOCTOR I have ever seen for YEARS has approved my eating plans while on a diet - the last couple diet plans being based on medifast and rice house diets (medifast is 900 and rice house is about 1000) - both of these are MEDICALLY supervised and what I use as a basis and I follow the guidelines.
It was suggested to get active - Yes I know I need to find a physical activity that I can do - I have had arthritis since age 2 so that is 50 years now. I keep trying, I’ll find something eventually. After all at age 2 they told my parents I would never walk - and I proved them wrong. Obviously doing stairs these past couple of weeks was not something that will work for me (resulting in very swollen and painful knees), but I will be doing something (I still do pushups and ab work on the equipment I have). I can’t afford a pool or to join the YMCA so swimming is out. I also have high blood pressure (and take a perscription that contains a diuretic) - so overdoing it with physical activity may have contributed to the fluid retention if my heart couldn’t handle it (I’ll be discussing all this with my cardiologist at my next appt. in two weeks). But as I have in the past I will continue to try various forms of activity until I find something that my body can handle whether it is enough to help with weight loss or not, it doesn’t matter - because it’s important to be as active as I can be even if it’s just a little.
I totally understand how all this must sound to some one who isn’t living it, I’ve been trying to figure it out for years along with my doctors. But I’m not giving up - I will continue to work with my doctors and do what ever it takes to get healthy.
I see my cardiologist next week and I have a feeling the rapid ”water” gain (9 lbs week before, 19 lbs last week) is going to be heart related. I’m not sure what ALL the causes of the fluid retention are, but female hormones, the heart, and menopause may all be factors.
So yeah I’m a far way from being healthy and I don’t have all the answers. But I do in every way I can seek to promote a healthy lifestyle.
It was suggested that I eat 1500 calories - according to my doctor I ONLY need 1400 calories to maintain, so doing 1500 a day would cause weight gain over time any way even with out the fluid retention problems experienced these past couple weeks.
It was suggested that I have anorxia and need to get help for it. Anorexia is a serious condition and I in no way want to make light of it, but trust me I like food, and that is not the problem, the foods I eat are nutrition dense (veggies, whole grain, fruit). Show me one anorexic that weighs over 200 lbs and who has gained 19 lbs in a week (and 9 lbs the week before that)????? I eat 4 meals a day and enjoy them and I don’t feel guilty about them, I don’t pretend to be eating, I never vomit, I am not imagining my size - I really do weigh OVER 200 lbs. I appreciate the concern, but anorxia is NOT my problem - and over the years every doctor and even the nutritionist I saw would confirm that.
Concerns were raised that I’m depending on a naturopath or shaman (and not a real doctor) as far as the herbal supplements I take - I always go over the list with my doctor. The new ones I added this past weekend I added because most were suggested by fellow bloggers who found that they helped them, and I will be taking the entire list with me to my cardiologist next week so she can look it over.
I wish good luck to everyone at fatbloggers. net and I know that you can all reach your goals. I wish you all well on your journey and pray for you all too, may you never find yourself with a physical condition or hormones that are out of whack that hinder your weight loss.
My family and close friends are totally supportive of me and my goal to get healthy no matter what phsyical complications I run into, and know that I work with my real doctors and that I eat real food - I am totally open and honest about everything with them. I don’t need to convince any one else.
I am posting this in response to the concerns simply to be as open and honest as I can be (accountability) and to say to any one else out there that may be facing similar frustrating weight issues - don’t give up and stay strong, no matter what obstacles you run into and no matter what others think.
Health and Happiness to all.

Awww.. I’m here for ya. I’ve been through times when I’ve dieted very strictly and gained 8 pounds in a 24 hr period. I KNOW what it’s like to get frustrated because the scales don’t show any loss, yet you KNOW you’ve dieted very strictly. I’ve gotten that look from the doc.. the one that says, “suuuuure you’ve been dieting.” I have FMF, it took me until I was nearly 40 to get the diagnosis, after being told more than once that my complaints of joint and muscle pain were just excuses not to exercise. Since childhood.
I understand.

I am sorry for fatbloggers not actually reading your story in full (as I know you have said time and again how your dieting actions and choices ARE medically supervised and approved) before choosing to ask you to discontinue posting.
Know that I am always here for you and love you lots and loads

My My My! Sorry you no longer are able to post on the group you mentioned. Sounds like you made many friends there.
I have Crohn’s disease and my weight bounces up and down like
a yo-yo. I also battle fibromyalgia and a host of other secondary
illnesses. No one can tell anyone what is best for them, not even
a doctor, because after a while you get to know your body better
than anyone. Glad you stood up for yourself.

Weight gain, weight loss, weight maintenance is just too complicated. I gained 10 pounds in three days, so I felt for a moment what you’re going through. It’s very frustrating. In your case with arthritis, that makes it even harder. Keep up the fight, keep searching for answers, and keep up the positive attitude, because we’re rooting for you.

Dr. Mehmet Oz just said a few days ago that 20 percent of people with weight problems have a genetic and hormonal profile that makes it extremely difficult to lose weight. Many people rush to judgment based on their personal experience and I am sorry you had to be their target. Know that many of us understand weight loss and maintenance can be a monumental struggle for some and a flippant point of pride for those who find it easy.
I admire your continued efforts in the face of challenges many people never face and do not understand. I certainly understand pain can be a BIG issue and especially with long standing arthritis. To deal with a disabling disease or condition is a huge challenge. Having Cerebral Palsy has taught me that.
I’ve had muscle and joint pain since childhood - due to CP and later tendonitis and osteoarthritis - and it definitely hampers exercise performance.
And I really don’t understand other views on herbal remedies as less effective than “real” or mainstream medicine. Herbal therapy came first! Ancient cultures managed and cured diseases with plants, herbs, etc. long before anyone held a prescription pad or scalpel.
And a very popular physician blogger is doing a medically supervised VLCD herself. Sometimes they are a necessary tool. I certainly don’t advocate a VLCD for just anyone but when a medical doctor advises one and supervises certainly it must be necessary and relatively safe.
Don’t let the naysayers and their judgmental views derail you. You can do it and you have lots of support including mine. Hugs, Carol
PS. If you lived near me you’d be welcome to swim in our pool anytime. Unfortunately it’s only a summer thing! Every time we close for winter I mourn it.

Weight loss can be a very difficult challenge. I really wish you all the best and hope some of your limitations decrease as your weight goes down. I also hope your cardiologist is able to help you with the fluid retention.

I’m disappointed in Fatbloggers.net for ousting you. I found Diet Pulpit through them and liked the diversity of opinion expressed there.
You’re an admirable woman to write so openly about the challenges, frustrations, and struggles of trying to lose weight while also dealing with medical problems. My physical ailments aren’t nearly as serious as yours but your continued effort to get your weight down is very inspiring.

Thank you Jessie. fatbloggers.net is a great bunch of guys, I can totally understand though how dealing with the issues a woman has to deal with plus the added medical problems doesn’t fit in there though.

I’m so glad that there have been positive improvements with the water gain. I really was concerned as well that it may be heart related, but felt that it may have sounded like a broken record to even bring it up. I wish you the best of health and know that you’ll always be in my thoughts.
