Crochet Projects Galore: Since Thanksgiving I have been crocheting a lot (most are Christmas gifts). I find that keeping my hands busy is very helpful to stay away snacks and keep my mind off food, as well as keeping me from getting bored. As promised here are some photos of items I made recently.
Light Blue Rectangular Shawl, with matching fingerless gloves and wide headband (Christmas gift for my mom). Shawl pattern is from my favorite book that I use a lot for blankets, also is the pattern source for the triangular shawl and extra wide scarf pictured below: The Prayer Shawl Ministry: Reaching Those in Need. Yarn used: Bernat Satin (”the softest touch”) brand, color Lapis.
Pink Poncho (for my daughter, Angelgirl) – Yarn: BRNT Alpaca Chunky Peony (I got it from AC Moore). It is very soft – I love Alpaca yarns. This pattern only took a day to make – using a free pattern from Lion Brand website – Martha Stewart’s coming home pattern girl’s size (I’m making one for me in deep plum in adult size only two more rows to go using the same darker yarn used in the ying/yang scarf below).

Vest in varigated white and pink (for my daughter, Angelgirl) – Aunt Lydia’s twinkles crochet color white (a pink\white varigated with a touch of sparkle to it), pattern was a freebie for a girl’s bolero vest (hanging from a yarn display).

Granny Square Blanket in varigated white and purple (Christmas gift for my friend B.) – yarn was a 10 pack I got from ebay: soft and thick Chenille color BC104

Not sure yet what I’m doing with these two items below:
Ying/Yang Extra-Wide Scarf (two colors: deep plum and light plum) – yarn brand Vanna’s Choice – this is becoming one of my favorites.. I made another scarf like this in white and dark green that I will be donating.

Triangular Shawl (Alpaca yarn 10 pack I got from ebay) – I made two others likes this also last year but in different colors as Christmas gifts, one for my friend Mama Kelly and one for my friend B.

Other projects:
I also made an extra long scarf in a soft gray alpaca yarn for hubby, but we couldn’t find it at the time we were taking photos. Early this morning I finished up a tri-colored throw blanket (no photo yet) of light blue, pale green and white – not sure what I’m doing with it, possibly donating.
Another project I have completed except for 2 rows of trim is for my very best friend – I have to wait for something to come in the mail that I ordered from ebay to add to the final two rows of trim. Hopefully the package will arrive before our scheduled visit next week. I am so very excited about this project – it is something her hubby told me 10 days ago that she really wanted, and I was able to find the pattern, get the yarn and get it finished – I have never ever taken on a project like this before and it was a challenge. I can’t share the details or photos yet with all of you because my friend reads this blog occasionally and I definitely want this gift to be a surprise.
My first project for the new year will be using a recently purchased very cool batch of a purple\black sparkly yarn (multi stranded of mixed types thread woven together). I am not sure what I’m going to make from it yet. There were only three balls (100 grams) of it left in an ebay auction, from a seller that makes only small batches of one of kind blended yarns. I have never worked with anything like it before but it is just lovely. Mostly like I will make an open type stitch patterned wrap\shrawl. I’ll be sure to post photos once I finished.
What hobbies do you have? Have you found keeping busy helps you with keeping on track to get healthy and eat less?
