Earlier this week I shared lessons learned after over 80 weeks on the road to a healthy lifestyle (and losing over 90 lbs so far). After giving it some more thought I realized I have actually acquired a lot of other bits of wisom (a.k.a. useless trivia) too. Here’s a few:

  • Old taste buds can learn new tricks, whole foods are really delicious – who knew!
  • I won’t “die” without my diet soda (and water really is a decent beverage – not great, but definitely drinkable and satisfying).
  • Magazines with headlines that read “lose 20 pounds in 5 days” or “drop 5 dress sizes in just 2 weeks” don’t have any “secrets” or “miracles” to share, but often have great cookie or cake recipes.
  • Salba isn’t a new Latin dance, it’s a powerhouse whole grain – and tasty too, I’ve been adding a Tbl to my morning oatmeal.
  • Thanksgiving “food porn” Day doesn’t have to be a disaster – I can eat healthy and still enjoy the day and feel satisfied.
  • Old habits really do die hard, and “constant vigilance” against the dark arts of culinary delights is required,  (nod to all the fellow Harry Potter fans out there).
  • I am never going to smile and be all perky while exercising (like they do on workout videos) – but I’ll drag my butt up and get moving from time to time.
  • Chocolate, fettucine alfredo, pizza, and ice cream are not daily requirements for an enjoyable, fulfilling day.
  • I am in control of my destiny not some hunk of metal and gears (the scale).
