Don’t be a fool, eat for fuel.
In preparation for the New Year, and getting geared up for new resolutions, fresh starts, and setting goals I thought it would be a good idea to review what I have learned so far after over 80 weeks of eating healthy and losing over 90 lbs. so far. What better wisdom is there to share, then wisdom gained from first hand experience:
Here are the Lessons I’ve learned so far:
- Diet’s don’t make you beautiful.
- Diet’s don’t make you happy.
- Diet’s don’t make you healthy.
- Diets often don’t work.
- Eating for fuel is doable, beneficial, and a much better way to approach food.
- Getting healthy and losing weight is HARD work – but it is worth every bit of effort, time and sweat that it takes.
- Motivation wanes, temptations are every where – success and reaching goals takes sheer determination, stubborness, and a good sense of humor along the way.
- Goals need to be specific and measurable, but also realistic.
- Success shouldn’t be measured by standards that are out of your control. (i.e., I can’t control the results of the scale, but I am still succeeding by eating healthy food choices and getting active.)
I plan to continue learning and making improvements to my lifestyle. I am looking forward to the New Year – for a fresh list of resolutions and manageable goals. It doesn’t matter that I didn’t reach a certain number on the scale, or that I didn’t complete all the resolutions from this year. Enjoying life is about the journey, the resolutions are simply a road map of where I’d like to spend my time during the year to accomplish certain goals – but I’m more then willing to take a detour now and then and explore other interesting options as they come along. There is no need to beat myself up over resolutions undone – they can always be added to the next year’s list.
What have your learned this year? What resolutions are you planning for the New Year?
Here’s a wise bit of cooking advice from my friend Brahnamin on why you shouldn’t sautee naked. No matter what your age, you can always learn something new! (**wonders if he learned this lesson from personal experience?**)
Health and Happiness to all.

so many fads, so little time
you know with all the fat blockers and fat liquifiers, you would think by now they would have developed a gender-specific pill that would cause fat to settle in the boobs or the willie.
there’s a diet EVERYONE would be down with

Grest lessons Lady Rose, thanks for sharing. This year I’ve learned that maintaining is harder than dieting. ): And I thought it would be eaiser.

Hi Jen – I have been enjoying your blog, and yeah maintenance can be tough – I haven’t managed it yet – hence the decades of yo yo dieting, but hopefully this time when I get to goal I am determined to learn how, the plan is to keep up the exercise and eating for fuel for a lifetime and NOT going back to tons of junk of foods.
Skywindows – you are too funny hehehehe
