From an article I wrote a long time ago – One Flew Over the Salad Bowl (or crazy things NOT to do on a diet)

PART ONE – THE DON’Ts
• Do not binge and then purge. Instead if you do overindulge, forgive yourself and get back to your healthy plan. Vomiting is destructive to the body and ruins the enamel on your teeth – so keep that healthy smile and be kind to yourself by not purging.
• Do not starve. Your body needs nutrition in order to function and stay alive. Thin means nothing if you are dead or all you can do is lay in bed. Find healthy foods that you enjoy and nourish your body in a quantity that works for you to be healthy.
• Do not use laxatives (unless medically needed). Getting enough fiber in your diet will keep your digestive tract healthy and moving. Try adding the tasteless fiber power to your beverages, soups, and yogurt.
• Do not use diuretics (unless prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition). Instead drinks lots of water and lower your sodium intake to 2000 mg a day (or as far down as you are comfortable taking, but no less then 300 mg a day). Drinking more water helps your body stay hydrated and circulation moving so it hold on to water.
• Do not use over the counter diet pills or “fad” diet supplements – they are only promoting them to make money, not to help the public. It’s a waste your hard earned cash, that you could put to better use buying organic healthier fresh whole foods.
• Do not follow a “fad” diet that promotes only one kind of food or an over strict regimen. For guidance in planning a healthy eating plan read up on the one’s that have been proven effect such Weight Watchers or the Rich House Diet or Mastering Leptin.
• Do not skip breakfast (or any meal) – three healthy meals will keep your body healthy, burning fat (not just sugar) and will prevent most if not all cravings and binges. You don’t have to eat as soon as you get out of bed – but find a time within an hour or two that you can have something (include protein).
• Do not grow roots and live on your couch – not moving, not having fun, leads to feeling even more tired, a clogged body and brain, and eventually turns the body in to a giant slug.
