John is hosting a contest entitled John Believes in You. The contest is open to anyone with a deliverable address on planet Earth. The prize - something wrapped in it’s own packaging, never opened, just for you, because John thinks you should have it. So head on over and enter, see contest post for instructions on creating an entry post.

Here’s my entry:

1. What you like about yourself:
I like that I am passionate about life, and my family and friends, that I am a survivor (child abuse, poverty, cancer, etc.), that I live life determined and tenacious as hell, and I like the person I have become (scars, bruises, and all). I also love my sense of humor, even if no else gets it. And I also love my birthday - it’s the day before Halloween (mischief night!)

2. What you don’t like about yourself that you can change:
My weight - it has been a long time battle ( a few decades), complicated by health issues, but I take full responsibility for the results of abusing my body by using food as a sedative to avoid living and feeling.

3. What you can do to make that change happen in #2:
Stop beating myself up for what was, accept that at heart I’m a slug and get healthy any way. I have taken on the challenge of weight loss with the gusto of a zealot and lead the campaign to put health first spreading the motto: “don’t be a fool, eat for fuel.” (Lost so far over 90 lbs.)

4. What you can’t change about yourself and haven’t accepted:
I have addictive (slightly obsessive) tendencies with a touch of gloominess (often verging on depression) that even after decades of brain washing with happy thoughts and smiley face t-shirts still lingers; though it does add a certain melodramatic quality to my creative writing I would prefer to not have to deal with it.

5. What you can do to overcome #4:
As needed I drag my attention to focus on what is really important in life (rather then self-indulgent pessimism), and concentrate on the positive, and all that I have to be grateful for in my life. I keep my addictions focused on non-destructive hobbies and most of all I don’t take myself too seriously and try to find the humor and simple pleasures in every day life.
