The ups and downs of the scale can really lead to a lot of frustrations.

I gained 5 pounds in 3 days — and and I only ate my healthy diet food that was on my list and within my calorie limits. The only change from last week is what I used to meet the calorie limits. I have been craving cottage cheese and salad - so I decided to give my self a treat and work them into my calorie plan. It did add up to a little more sodium that usual - I try to keep it to 1000 mg or lower a day, and the past three days its been closer to 1500 mg (which is what the doctor recommended I not go over). The dressing I decided to use is Low Fat Ranch by Hidden Valley - 30 calories per Tablespoon - I use two tablespoon on a big bag of salad (for a total of 105 calories). The cottage cheese I like is low fat and 90 calories a serving. My taste buds have been in heaven. But obviously I can’t use either of these foods, or perhaps just one of them - with a 5 lb weight gain in three days I won’t be touching either of them any time soon. Some possible causes: 1) the sodium intake perhaps caused a big water weight gain, even though it is below 2000 mg a day (for normal folks) and within the doctor’s recommendations for me of 1500 mg a day; 2) perhaps I have a slight intolerance to dairy — I can digest it fine, I have no tummy problems from it, but maybe it causes inflammation in my body. Dairy is actually NOT healthy for humans to consumer - so this is just one more reason for me to never touch it again; or 3) I checked the ingredients of the Hidden Valley Ranch low fat dressing, what a disappointment - it contains high fruitose corn syrup (HFCS), one of the most toxic, lethal chemicals on the planet and should never be consumed by humans. Oh well, I guess that is why my taste buds were so happy - I was feeding them two poisons a day, while thinking I was being healthy and sticking with my plan by eating more salad and low fat dairy. Oh well, lesson learned. Back to steamed veggies and skinless chicken for the bulk of my diet. Boring, but safe.

Note to self: remember to read all labels and even ”diet foods” can make you fat.

Moving forward and making healthy choices.  I will SUCCEED!
