As we all know the road to losing weight can be a long one, and it’s easy to forget to congratulate ourselves on the small victories we achieve on a daily basis – each small victory is another positive step to bigger and healthier changes.

So I decided to take a moment and celebrate a small victory of mine – this morning my daughter had a slice of peanut butter toast for breakfast. She finished about 90% of it, and gave me the plate with a remaining sliver of crust with melted, yummy smelling peanut butter on it to dispose of while she grabbed her shoes and other school stuff since it was time for us to head out and start our day.

As I walked the plate with the tempting morsel on it into the kitchen, I thought about having a nibble – just a nibble not the whole piece – but decided no, I really don’t need it. Sure it would taste good, but who needs the added 50 or more calories for just a taste of something. I dumped the remains in the trash and the plate in the sink and patted myself on the back for having resisted temptation and silenced the little voice that says “there are starving children in the world you shouldn’t waste food.”

Later when I had my fresh, juicy apple at my desk once I got to work I felt pretty proud of myself.

I’d love to hear about your small (and big) victories too.
