Pi Who? Not a who, a what – Pi Gu (pea goo) – no it’s not a recipe for pea soup either.

Pi Gu is based on an ancient Chinese technique and wisdom for weight management.

Several months ago I had gotten a brochure for the noncredit courses at our local community college but didn’t really look at it for a few weeks. When I did one of the classes that caught my eye was Pi Gu: An Eastern Approach to Weight Management, 1 session for $20. I was thinking of signing up for it, but it was a Thurs. night the following week and I ended with a bad cold and too many things to do already so I didn’t get the chance to take the session.

Of course I had to look up what Pi Gu is (see link below). I do believe that there is validity to the concept of Chi (Qi), and it makes sense that finding ways to balance your Chi (life force, energy) can help a person feel healthier, more relaxed and have more energy all of which can contribute to helping to lose weight. Since we all to often use food to compensate for a lack of sleep, lack of joy, lack of comfort, lack of nutrition, lack of water, etc – it makes sense that we would also use food to try to make up for low levels of chi. If our life, our chi, and our bodies are out of balance, than our food intake is going to be out of balance also.

Reading about Pi Gu renewed my interest in Qi Gong- which I have always wanted to learn. There are several easy to follow dvds out there. I ordered a whole set (100 days lessons which is the traditional way to learn it). I am also looking into a class to be certified in qi gong healing – hopefully the classes will be offered early next year at a time I can take them (the teachers are in North Jersey so I should be able to drive it – about an hour away).

Pi Gu – An ancient Chinese techinque at least 2,000 years old that involves a fasting program with the assistance of qi or energy. It originally came from traditional Taoist practices. It involves fasting and detoxes the body. Basics: as needed for a meal eat an egg and a tomato; eat only if truly hungry, eat slowly and consciously. (Note: the egg is a whole food that contains all the nutrients the body needs except vitamin C).

I don’t know enough about this ancient diet to really rate it, but felt it was interesting enough to share the information.
