Week 64 – 212.5 (gained another 5 lbs)

This was the weekend Harry Potter book 7 came out, so I was up almost all night Friday. Then on Saturday I went to see Order of Phoenix on an IMAX screen (with the final 20 minutes in 3d – awesome!) with a group of friends. I gave in and had 2 slices of pizza and a little vanilla ice cream – which I haven’t done in over year. I knew I would pay for it — but I figured it’s ok, I’m starting a new healthy eating plan on Sunday.

Well pay for it I did – I gained 5 lbs. So today’s starting weight is 212.5 (reminder: the week before I had gained a pound, and I don’ t know why because I had followed been following my regular diet plan).

Any way I am taking it all in stride. I’m not going to panic. It’s only 6 a.m. and I haven’t had time to shop yet so not sure I can start the new eating plan today. I am hestitant to start it at all since it will be way more calories then I’m used to. My regular eating plan is about 800 calories a day, the new plan doesn’t count calories – but I will any way (from looking over the basics it requires protein at every meal, and unlimited veggies, with a good carb meal every few days) – so I’m guessing 1200 to 1400 calories a day. Plus they require a fat (which is even more calories and I’m not sure I will do that part).

Every calculator I have tried to estimate calories – I ONLY need 1600 calories to just maintain (one reality that has to be faced that age is a factor and the body really doesn’t need all that much). So to lose a 1 lb a week I would only be able to eat 1100 a day. Since I am relying on packages and food scales – nothing is perfect, so keeping it to between 800 and 900 calories is probably the best way to insure I’m actually getting low enough calories. As I said before in my previous post about the new plan – it scares me a lot. But I’m willing to try it since everyone seems to think more is better. (NOTE my doctor knows I do 800 a day and is fine with it).

Any way — I’m going to be reading Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows all day (I’m half way through it as of 5 a.m. this morning). Will go shopping, and probably start the new plan tomorrow rather then today. I will be weighing myself every day to keep track. If I gain more then a couple of pounds the first few days I will stop – and wll go back to 800 and probably lower until I lose it and the weight gained from the meal I had yesterday. If I don’t gain I’ll give it the full week and see what happens. Even on my old plan it could take over a month to lose what I gained from the one meal yesterday. But that is OK, eating healthy is for life – it’s NOT a temporary thing – I know my body – I know I can not eat anything at all that is not on my list – a little reminder now and then is a good thing. So the next time my friends and family insist that it’s only one meal, go ahead, it can’t hurt — I have this post as a record and I will make them read it a 100 times – so they will STOP insisting that one meal is no big deal.

Numbers on the scale are not the issue — healthy food is. So that is what I’m focusing on. The new diet plan may be something I can use, or it may just be something I will be able use as a guideline to follow AFTER I have reached a healthier goal weight. Whatever happens I’m in it for the long haul – I am getting healthy, making good choices, and the scale is simply a tool to use as guide it is not the end of the world or even the whole picture.

Back to READING! The book is awesome.
