Well I checked on the scale, and as usual it was disappointing — I gained a pound already this week. *sigh*

I know I should be weighing myself every day (as advised in a lot of diet books), but that I can’t deal with. And I know the other side of the arugment say only weighin once a week - but I can’t do that either because then if I’ve gained 3 or 5 lbs. without warning I get very emotionally tied up in knots. So I compromise and sneak a peak now and then, so when my official weigh in day comes I am prepared for the news.

Last week I exercised and this week also almost every day. I know I should be exercising every day for 1 hour — but I am working up to it. Currfently, I am doing 5 out of 7 days for 15 minutes and will be adding 5 minutes at week until I get to 60.

Trust me I have researched it and checked with experts - to lose weight it’s one hour a day 6 to 7 days a week. That whole concept of 30 minutes 3 days a week is the bare minimum just to maintain — but does nothing for major weight loss (especially an endopmorph body types, or someone who has a lot of weight to lose - it takes slow cardio for a long period to get the body to start releasing the deep fat stores).

Any way the only thing I can figure is I am not reacting well to the added dairy products this week — 45 calorie cup of yogurt and 50 calorie string cheese. So I will be eliminating these totally and see what happens next week.

I really tried to follow other people’s advice about eating more often - so that is why I added these two items. But since it didn’t work (yet again!) - I will go back to my 3 meals a day ONLY (as advised in a LOT of diet books, like my favorite Mastering Leptin). But the added meals, as well as a possible reaction to dairy is the only thing that I can figure contributed to the weight gain.

A friend at the office is dieting also and she eliminates all dairy and all gluten from her diet and it works well for her. I will give it a try also — giving up dairy is easy, but the gluten is tough. I really enjoy my diet rye bread (only 40 calories a slice).

At least this time of year I have lots of company on a diet because a lot of folks at work are dieting. They of course are losing weight, while I am gaining — but at least it is nice to have other folks around who are also dieting.

One friend (same age as I am) joined Weight Watchers - she lost 3.5 lbs so far since the beginning of Jan. She has been “round” her whole life and is giving it one more try to lose. I am cheering for her. I tried Weight Watchers a few years ago and I gained so much weight it scared it me - way too much food for me. But I’m glad it is working so far for her, it is a very healthy and doable diet plan.

Every day in every way I am getting healthy!
