Weight: 251 lbs. Lost this week: 8.5 lbs (which is the 1.5 lb. I gained last week and minus an additional 7 lbs.)

Sunday 4 a.m. (instead of the usual Monday a.m.) - I am weighing in one day early because we leave for vacation in a few hours and where we are staying only has dialup internet which I can’t use with my laptop and I’m not packing my scale.

I had peeked on Friday and by then I had lost 7 lbs., so I was even more shocked to see I had lost more by today. Shocked in a good way.

Monday and Tuesday of last week were emotionally tough because of the weight gain (caused I think from increased sodium over the weekend) — so I revamped my diet based on information in the books I’m reading and it seems to be helping.

Some of the changes were implemented based on the five recommendations in the Mastering Leptin book I got last Monday (I haven’t started their exercise recommendations yet - but I will). These few simple changes in timing and size of meals helps the body become a fat burner rather then burning sugar. I was skeptical at first - but the proof is on the scale. I also wasn’t hungry and had no cravings.

I plan on continuing with this plan on my vacation. We will be staying in a townhouse with a small kitchen so I can bring what I need for most meals. I have things to keep in my purse for emergencies (i.e. 12 almonds, an apple and a low sodium V8 juice can for protein and healthy fat plus fiber and vitamins from fruit and veggie) if I’m out some where and can’t find something that suits my diet.

I have gone over the menu for the restaurant we are having dinner at Tues. night and I already know what I’m having - a huge salad, some steamed veggies, and 12 broiled scallops (or 6 scallops and a few shrimp). I am not feeling deprived in any way because the reward will be feeling energetic and getting healthier and knowing I can navigate through unhealthy choices and survive with my healthy eating plan intact.

I’ll be back late on Thursday, and I will try to post on Friday on how the vacation went.
