I’m noticing some very nice changes after ONLY 7 days on a low sodium diet plan (loosely based on following the recommendations of The Rice House Diet) – quicker then I have on any other diet plan (and I’ve tried almost all of them).

I have been keeping my daily calories the same as I did before I switched to all low sodium foods – which is between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I am resisting the urge to weigh myself ahead of schedule, but I think I’ve lost already this week – my official weighin day is Monday and I’m actually looking forward to it (whereas before I was always dreading the weighin because I was worried I wouldn’t have lost anything).

It “feels” like I’m a balloon with a slow leak — which is a good thing! I can pinch my belly, thighs and underarms and feel that there is less “fat\water” under the skin. I can taste food a lot more — dinner last night: roasted baby carrots were just bursting with flavors and a yummy baked potato with only a light spray of 0 calorie butter flavored spray, sprinkle of pepper and two gloves of roasted garlic was heavenly.

I can see a little bit of a waist now and my cheek bones are beginning to peek out too. My breasts don’t bulge over the top of the bra any more. My hips and knees are less achy. I am sleeping better. I haven’t had any morning congestion (often when I first wake up in the morning I’m snuffy and have to blow my nose and cough a lot) – this may have been caused my a mild allergy to something which I’m probably avoiding on this diet, or perhaps just from poor circulation during the night with all the added weight.

I haven’t had any cravings and I’ve been able to feel pleasantly satisfied (not hungry) all week while eating healthy and very low salt foods (under 1000 mgs of sodium daily this week).

Also I don’t have the tight, puffy, pressure feeling under my ribs, which when checked by a doctor has been tender and painful (MRI results showed fatty liver). I started Livatone Plus at the same time I started eating only low sodium foods — so I am hopeful that this means the fat is also clearing out of the liver and it is healing. It is recommended taking two capsules of Livatone twice a day for 3 to 4 months, and then 2 once a day for maintence to heal a fatty liver. I plan to do this for the entire time it takes to lose all the weight I need to because a healthy liver is what is needed to get the fat out of the body and keep it out, and the liver helps keep the body healthy in numerous ways.

The low sodium cookbooks I ordered arrived last night. I only had time to glance through them quickly but I saw several recipes I can’t wait to try and I think my family will like some of them too. I am very excited to get cooking! I got an email notice my order from the Healthy Heart Market was shipped two days ago so that should arrive soon – I’m hoping it arrives today or early tomorrow so I have time to make the low sodium chili recipe this weekend.

What experiences have you had with low sodium foods? Do you have a favorite low sodium recipe or made over a family favorite so its a low sodium healthier recipe?
