The title is from a line of a favorite song of mine and after reading an article at MSNBC “Ballroom dancing puts the swing in exercise” I was inspired to write about how much fun dancing can be as a form of exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise.

I’ve always wanted to take ballroom dance lessons with my hubby, and for years he’s said no but the last two or three years he did give in and say he’d give it a try.  I have been to exhausted and feeling too “fat” to take him up on it — but I’m definitely going to start seriously think about it again. Once I get to under 200 lbs. I will see what kind of classes are available in our area.

But even without lessons there are tons of opportunities every day to dance right in my own home. Just free form dancing is a great way to MOVE your body.

Pull down the shades, crank up your favorite tunes and dance, dance, dance. Dance while dusting, washing dishes, vaccuming, showering, or just dance for fun. Dance with your kids – they will love it, the sillier the better.

Once you have been dancing for awhile you can always add hand held weights and ankle weights with velcro to give you an extra boost and increase the benefits of the dancing.

Playing your favorite music and dancing can transport you to a happy place inside, it can for that brief time create a fun, happy place to just relax and let your body be creative, move with freedom and joy, and be a kid again.

There is even car dancing or chair dancing, so any one can get join in the fun. And one of my favorite sexy form of dancing I would like to explore once I lose some weight is Pole Dancing. And there are lots of benefits to belly dancing and square dancing too.

So get your grove on. Get funky. Rock till you drop. Dance alone, with your kids or with friends, boogie all night, cha cha cha, what ever gets you going — get moving and give dancing at try!
