I had a great visit with my best friend and fellow blogger Mama Kelly this past weekend and we drank a ton of lemon water. She posted some of the health benefits of Lemons on other blog and I’d like to share there here too.
Mama Kelly’s simple recipe for lemonade: To 2 quarts of water add the juices of 3 fresh lemons and 1 fresh lime. Add splenda to taste and serve very cold.
Lemons and limes are wonderful aids to health:
- contain phytonutrients with Antioxidant, Anti-Cancer and Antibiotic Effects
- lemon juice added to raw oysters before eating them destroys 92% of the bacteria present within 15 minutes.
- possible cholesterol-lowering benefits
- may help protect against Macular Degeneration
- may help protect against Rheumatoid Arthritis from the vitamin C content
- assists digestion and elimination
- assists liver health
Lemons and limes will stay fresh kept at room temperature for about one week, and for up to 4 weeks in the refrigerator crisper(limes for about 10-14 days).
Remember that 1/4 cup of lemon juice has only 15 calories and goes a long way.
To avoid pesticide residue it is wise to wash the lemon with a little unscented soap and then rinse thoroughly before juicing.
