And I don’t just mean eating more veggies (though that is good for you too). Besides all the other harmful side affects (lung and breathing problems, headaches, impaired nervous sytem, etc.) of the toxins in household cleaners they can also be contributing to the overload of toxins that are causing our livers to function poorly, slowing our metabolisms, making us feel tired and sluggish, and gain weight. Recent EPA reports show that indoor pollutent levels are two to five times higher than outdoor levels, and a lot of that pollution is caused by our household cleaners. Paula Baillie-Hamilton, M.D. author of Toxic Overload (Avery, 2005) says “these toxins disrupt female hormones, causing mood swings, fatigue, lowered immunity and weight gain.”
So besides eating more green veggies, adding more houseplants (which help clean the indoor air), try switching to natural household cleaners instead of the harmful toxics one. You’ll feel better, breath better, and you may even lose more weight too.
