Here is a three in one post for a bit of Friday Fun!
Product Review: GLAD® is promoting their SimplyCooking™ Microwave Steaming Bag, and since steaming is very a healthy way to cook I just had to blog about it. The steaming bags make it so easy and no mess. Any recipe that calls for steaming or parchment wrap cooking can be used in these bags, like this Salmon Fillet en Papillote with Julienne Vegetable by Alton Brown (Food Network). This kind of cooking keeps the food moist. It is so easy to use by any one, even if you can’t cook. And the bags are extremely helpful to busy cooks on the run. Meals can be made ahead of time and tossed in the freezer. Meals can be made ahead for your kids to heat quickly in the microwave (no worry about using the stove).
Here’s a family tip: I love the idea of being able to pack everyone’s bag custom made – get the kids involved and let them put in a variety of veggies so for example one can have more green beans and another more carrots (if the bag is made “their way” the kids are more likely to eat it).
GLAD® steaming bags are also a nice diet tool. For everyone watching their calories you can prepare lots of meals ahead of time for just you, and have them ready to pull out and eat on nights your family is ordering in a pizza or some other take out that is not your eating plan. It is also a great way to keep portions under control, since each bag is prepared with “just the right amount” ahead of time, and no leftovers lingering in the pan to be nibbled on.
As part of their promotional campaign there is a lot of fun going on over on the GLAD® website so head on over:

I am adding this one to my “heavenly recipe” collection:
Chinese Steamed Halibut Filet with Broccoli Rabe
Makes 1-2 Servings
1 filet halibut
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon mustard
3 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon diced garlic
1 tablespoon diced shallot
1 tablespoon chopped ginger
6 or 7 cilantro leaves, hand torn
1 handful broccoli rabe
Sea salt (to taste)
Cracked pepper (to taste)
Take all of the ingredients except the fish into a medium-sized bowl and toss well. Make sure to get rabe nice and coated. Place the rabe in a 3-4 serving GLAD® SimplyCooking™ Microwave Steaming Bag. Place the fish into the bowl and coat it with the ingredients. Place the fish on top of the rabe in the bag and pour the sauce over the top. Seal the bag and microwave for 4 to 5 minutes until the fish reaches approximately 155 degrees Fahrenheit.
