Weight: 285 lbs
Weight loss 7.5 (6.5 from starting weight and the 1 lb gain of last week)
I had some challenges and temptations this week but I managed to survive and stay focused on eating for fuel. First there was pizza and ice cream cake at my daughter’s party with family. I had ONE and only one small fingertip taste of the ice cream cake as I was cutting slices. I stayed away completely from the pizza and didn’t even smell it (Odd but true – I have seen my weight go up 3 to 5 lbs in a day from just smelling some foods).
Depression was high this week, partially due to the +1 weight gain of last week, plus I was feeling bloated, and I really dislike having to deal with all the medical issues and doctor appointments I have to go to, but it was manageable.
Cravings started a bit this week, but I wasn’t hungry most of the time, so it was mostly just what I refer to as “tongue” cravings (missing certain foods like mashed potatoes and macroni and cheese – two of my favorite “drugs” of choice). I just tried to keep busy and reminded myself of all the health issues I’m dealing with (like congestive heart failure) that are made worse by eating unhealthy foods and being overweight and the cravings didn’t seem all that important any more.
Overall it was a pretty good week. I think the reason I wasn’t too hungry is mostly because I’m eating very bulky foods (lots of vegetables). Also I have stopped taking the levoxyl, which my current doctor doesn’t think I needed all those years my previous doctor had me taking it. One of the side affects of levoxyl is increased hunger — so perhaps not taking it any more is helping.
I had a subway sandwich (380 calories for 6″) twice this week. I was a little hestitant to eat something this good that I really like so soon into the diet because I was afarid it would trigger really strong cravings or hunger. But I planned around it and managed my calories and food intake so that I was able to enjoy the treat, not be hungry, and stay within my calorie limit.
My primary doctor has given me some information on gastric bypass surgery and will be sending me a referral. At least I can look into it. The facilities she recommended look very impressive, I checked them out online.
