I’ve lost over 80 lbs so far and still going strong. I thought I should start revealing some of my diet secrets, perhaps one of these diet tips will help you too.
1) Give your child a digital camera (can be an inexpensive one) - they love to take pictures of mom and dad, and share them with friends, strangers, and the internet. Having 100s of photos of yourself taken randomly while sleeping, eating, lounging is a good motivator to change your habits.
2) Get a child proof gate - one that is really difficult to open, after dinner and clean up when you have NO reason to enter the kitchen again - put the gate in front of your kitchen entrance. That way if you are tempted to snack at night you will have to stop and really work at it to get in, and hopefully you’ll come to your senses and not bother (and avoid the snack).
3) Get addicted to something else besides food - be sure it is something that is not destructive or unhealthy. (My addiction of choice is Blogging, so far there are no ill side affects but the scientific test results are not all in yet.)
4) Stop wasting food by buying way more then you need. If it’s not in the house you probably won’t go out to get it. Think about all the food you throw out at the end of the week or even worse all the food you EAT even though you are not hungry just so it isn’t thown in the garbage. Are your cabinets stuffed with “just in case I need it” stocking piling? STOP! If you really need emergency rations, then stock up on canned goods and nonperishables and put them away in a plastic container in a safe spot. You do not need to stock up on cookies, ice cream, macroni and cheese, 4 kinds of cheese, potato chips, waffles, cupcakes, egg rolls, etc., in case of a flood or snow storm!
5) Put a BIG sign on your refrigerator that says “STOP in the name of Health, before you kill yourself.” If that doesn’t work, rig the door with a loud alarm that can be heard by your neighbors, set it so it goes off after dinner if the door is opened.
