You know you are getting old when the hair accessory you have used everyday for decades is now considered vintage (selling on ebay for $4.99 a packge Vintage Goody Hair Ponytail Holder Twin Bead 1989).

A package contains 10 holders, and each one lasts about a month or so before it stretches too much and needs to be replaced. I have been looking for these for months now in every store I go to and haven’t been able to find them any where. When I checked out the Goody website and couldn’t find them, I knew I was forever doomed to be without my favorite hair accessory because it seems they don’t make them anymore. I have maybe two or three left tucked away in various drawers or pocketbook compartments, but once these are stretched out beyond their usefulness I will be forced to seek out a new way to deal with a big ponytail.
I have very very long hair (just past my waist) and the easiest way for me to manage it is by using the stretcy pony tail holders that have two beads on the end. It is an easy way to hold the hair back, and very easy to undo for a quick brush throughout the day (compared to other types of bands that require pulling the ponytail through, twisting the band and trying to pull the ponytail through again in order to get it tight enough.
Cutting my hair is NOT an option. I’m sure I’ll be able to adapt – but in the meantime I will definitely be a little grumpier in the morning while dealing with a ponytail that often has a mind of its own.

Now that my hair is growing I feel the same way. I usually use the bands that have material around them.

I think once something is 20 yrs old it can be called “vintage” – would never have thought about labelling a ponytial holder that way though.

I used to use them, remember post op you may want to find something a bit less pulling on your hair as about 5 months post op it starts to fall out, unfortunately no way around that one!! I love the ones with the softer material around them, a little more gentle! Good news it all grows back and then some!!! Good luck with the docs you’ll be there before you know it…..

Thanks for the tip Michelle – I have heard about the hair loss – BIG incentative to take the recommended vitamins and get enough protein, but no matter what happens I know it’s temporary
I was thinking of during that time to light braided my hair – that way it’s held back with only a small band at the end of the braid, but not tightly at the base of the neck.
