I have been giving it a lot of thought as to why Sarah Palin strikes such a gag reflex with me and also pushes my anger button.  I think a large part of it is because, as a woman and as an American, I find her an embarrassment.

Here are some of the reasons why I find her embarrassing:

  • Arrogance - She wants more power as vice president then is legally allowed, wouldn’t answer the questions of the moderator (then why show up - just put out a 90 minute video of yourself on youtube), there are more examples but I’ll stick to the top two just from last night.
  • Manipulative - Her use of winks, smiles, blowing kisses and being cutsy in order to use her sex appeal to try and manipulate every man in America.
  • She is insulting to the intelligence of the average American by implying that we are all beer drinking, under informed, hillbillies by calling us “Joe Six Packs” and then claiming to be one of us.
  • Using her children as political pawns  - dragging her wonderful, beautiful child on stage and in front of the cameras at every opportunity, I can only imagine how stressful and exhausting all this is for him.
  • She is uninterested in world affairs, uninformed on the issues and then pretends to know what she talking about.
  • Her lack of integrity - the lies she keeps spouting are cringe worthy (one of the latest - in the vp debate Sarah Palin claimed to have pushed to have whatever funds her state had invested in Sudan removed, however the truth is revealed when records are checked - “Palin’s administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure. The Alaska Permanent Fund currently holds $22 million in Sudan-linked investments.”  (McCain, at least, has been a strong supporter of Sudan divestment efforts, and has urged Americans to liquidate their holdings in any businesses there.)

She is not the average American - she is so far out of touch with the average American she would not recognize one if they “reared” their head at her breakfast table **wink, wink**.   She is worth over a million dollars - I don’t know any average American worth that much.   I come from a background of poverty, worked my way up to middle class, got a four year college degree while working full time and attending night school for 11 years and I never once thought of myself or any of my family, friends, or peers as “Joe Six Packs” and I find Gov. Palin’s attitude appalling.

As a woman I would love to see a competent, skilled, intelligent, experienced woman in the White House as President, Vice President or any other capacity.  As an American I want the people I elect into office to understand the issues better then I do, to be better able to negotiate with our allies and others, to comprehend the broader issues and how they interrelate in order to make the tough big decisisons that will affect our nation.  In other words - I want the best of the best, the most above average people we have to offer and who are willing to serve our country for the greater good of the nation - I do NOT want me, my friends, my neighbors, or most of the average Americans I know.   Sure we are smart, we don’t all drink beer, we read the paper and watch the news and we know a lot about politics, and we work hard and do great jobs - but all that does not make us qualified to be President, Vice President and probably a lot of other jobs too.

And you know what - that’s ok.    Because our job as average Americans is to be vigilant, to be selective, to be informed, and to chose our leaders based on leadership, diplomatic skills, knowledge, and a host of other above average qualifications and not let our Constitution, our White House and our Nation be taken over someone who only “thinks” they are qualified.

I know not everyone agress with me, and I respect your opinions.  Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments.

Did any one else find her winking totally annoying?   What the heck did she intend to convey with all the winking any way?

Be informed and be sure to vote!   Lady Rose
