** gets out my soapbox** Every once in awhile I do have the occasional rant, personal opinion, or thought provoking commentary on a variety of topics - today is one of those days.
Beth Ditto on the cover of NME (weekly bible for English music nerds, Beth Ditto is an outspoken and empowering Gossip singer).
This cover I am sure will provoke a variety of reactions. I for one find it empowering and a strong positive statement that you can be beautiful at any size. I don’t know much about Beth Ditto personally, but from what I did read about her, she is outspoken and living her life her way and that is something I can strongly support, and a fine example of living life with the F.A.T. Attitude(fabulous, awesome, tenacious) . (She was nominated for Sexiest Woman Of The Year in the NME Awards 2007.)
I find the magazine cover tastefully done and not offensive at all. However, just “nudity” I’m sure is a controversy in itself (some for it and some not). Setting aside the issue of nudity for a moment, on the issue of size and empowerment what are your opinions - empowering or embarrassing? Should women (and men) of size be featured more on the covers of magazines, in bathing suits, in the nude? Can a person be sexy and empowered at any size?
I think you all know my answers - empowering, and yes and yes. What do you think?
**puts the soapbox away**
To hear a sampling of Beth Ditto’s music (the band The Gossip) - free downloads. My favorite is Listen Up.
