I recently had the pleasure of using the Peapod online grocery shopping experience and having my order delivered directly to my home. Along with my review, I am able to offer all my readers a $20 discount code if you would also like to try it out. Here is the promotional code: BLOGPOST2 (code is entered after shopping, at the final step of check out).
(Note: Peapod is not available every where yet, but you can check if it is available in your area by typing in your zip code at their website peapod.com.
To create a new account, from their front page - select “new customer” then chose either “groceries for your home” or “for your business,” enter your zip code and from the list click on the location nearest you. Then from the top tabs select “my account” and from the menu select “create username and password.”
Once you have an account set up, logging in and shopping are easy. You can shop by aisle, by name products, or category of products. You can even save a shopping list, and if you start shopping with items in your cart but need to log out your cart is also saved. They also offer a stop & shop card, which can also be linked to Upromise (the way other grocery store cards are). Prices are comparible to your local grocery store, and you can find sales and specials. We even got a free sample (full size box of wheel noodles) with our order. I got a confirmation email for placing the order, followed up later by a confirmation of what time the delivery would take place. The delivery person was very nice and offered to put the bags down any where that was convenient for me. Everything arrived as ordered and I was impressed with the freshness of the strawberries and kale. I signed for the delivery and the delivery man explained that if anything at all is wrong (for example you find the eggs are broken) that there is a number to call and my account would be credited.
It is very convenient and I can definitely see that this service can be very useful. There is a small price for convenience though as is to be expected. There is a minimum of a $60 order. There is a small fuel charge (mine was $1.08) and the delivery charge is $9.95 - however, you can save $1 or $2 off this fee dependnig on what time of day you select for delivery. For example, if I had selected delivery between 3 and 6 the next day there was no savings, but by selecting 3:30 to 9:00 p.m. I saved $2.
Deliveries are made Tuesday - Saturday, and time slot available depends on when you placed your order the day before (if you ordered more then a day in advance then you can pick any time slot available).
I mentioned to a woman at my office that I was going to be shopping with Peapod and said she had used them and was pleased. We were very pleased with everything we ordered as well. I tried to get a little bit of everything from fresh produce, meat, canned goods, baked goods, and household items.
With a hectic schedule, juggling work and kids, Peapod’s grocery shopping and delivery service is an easy convenient way to get groceries, if the delivery fee fits into your budget. Even if you didn’t use Peapod on a regular basis, it may be something to keep in mind for times when unforeseen circumstances arise and life gets extra hectic or for those you know who are unable to get out to the grocery store on their own.
