There are moments when being a parent is the only thing in the world that matters and your heart is so full of joy and love it feels like it will burst. I have been blessed with many, many of these moments (I consider every moment with Angelgirl a true blessing). Last night was one of the highlight moments.
Angelgirl was part of a big concert - she plays viola (the two years before that she played violin). She was invited to participate in a special concert that combined several schools in our area, they had special rehearsals for the past several weeks. The band played five songs and the orchestra played 4. It was a short, but wonderful 30 minutes.
Watching her play was totally awesome. We have attended smaller school concerts at her elementary school, but this was the first time she had the chance to play with a much larger group and she was having a great time.
She hasn’t decided whether to continue with the viola when she goes to middle school - she may just do choir and maybe acting (she enjoyed it in preschool & the after school art program she was in before) and she was in a school play this year too), she will decide later on what to do in middle school.
We try not to push her (she puts so much pressure on herself already) so we are leaving the decision of extra curriculum activities up to her - but once she commits to something we help her stick it out for the duration of the commitment and when she is having trouble deciding we try to help her make a decision on her own.
June 18th is her last day of elementary school - we got a sealed envelope from the school yesterday saying she will be getting a special award and if we can, to please attend. Teacherman and I are just bursting with parent pride and can’t wait. I even invited grandmom to come too. She has gotten a few awards the past years - but we’ve never gotten an invitation before so we have no idea what the award is (though we suspect it is probably related to her straight A’s, and\or perfect attendance for the past five years).
In Sept. she will test for her karate black belt, with the official presentation scheduled for December at a banquet.
This year is truly filled with big occasions to celebrate, so I’m sure there will more “mommy gushing” occasionally.
Angelgirl is growing up so fast - she is 11! Where has the time gone? It was a long journey for her to come into our lives (and I don’t just mean the 22 hour plane trip home from China), and I thank the heavens above and all the powers that be every second of every day that she is a part of our lives. Perhaps I should blog one day about how we became an adoptive family.
