Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cake 80 calories, 1 point is similar to a twinkie, but smaller and is a new addition to the Weight Watchers line of baked goods and snacks.

I have finally found a snack food that I can eat just one of - the problem is I don’t even want to eat just one.  When I received the box for review I took a few over to a friend’s house and sliced them up for all to try - the overall reaction was the kids spit it out immediately and the adults said yuck! icky! disgusting!

I bravely tried a bite and although I didn’t find it disgusting, it wasn’t good either. It is “oily” and sorta of crumbly. We all agreed it had a chemical almost medicinal after taste that was not easy to get rid of.

I brought the last one into work with me for a friend to try who is on Weight Watchers. She liked it. When I told her the reaction of the other folks who tasted it she said their reaction must have been because their tastebuds were not used to a cake with less fat and less sugar. That could explain not liking it, but doesn’t explain finding it disgusting and the lingering icky after taste.  She did mention that it had a sorta of oiliness to it and very crumbly but she didn’t mind.  She likes a lot of the Weight Watchers products for the convenience and uses them a lot, (she said I should mention that they do not have a long shelf life and go stale quickly).

I like Weight Watchers and support what they do, but on this product I have to say they totally need to take it back to the kitchen and revamp this recipe. I have had a few other baked snacks by Weight Watchers and they were ok, so not sure what is different about this one.

Health and happiness, Lady rose

My rating 1 halo
(and the only reason it has 1 halo and not a pitchfork is because my friend at work (who is on Weight Watchers) said she liked it and wanted to be sure I said at least some nice things about it)
