So I wake up this morning, and want is the first thing I hear on the news? Scientists have turned some 10 billion dollar contraption that has the ability to create black holes and dark matter. However, the newscaster was quick to add, had anything gone wrong and the earth was destroyed, it would have been quick and painless and over while we were sleeping.
Gee, what a relief. It’s nice to know they are all concerned for our comfort while they throw the switch on this massive “Big Bang Machine” just so a handful of curious folks can try and satisfy their curiosity to answer the questions “how did our universe start?”
Now I know the risk was minimal. I know there are all kinds of safety procedures and gadgets in place so everyone feels all nice and cozy. But if there is even the slightest risk to firing up this atom-smashing hunk of technology that could potentially completely wipe out the earth, I really do think we all should have a vote on it.
No one asked me if I minded whether or not scientists turned on a “black hole, anti-matter making machine under the earth while I was asleep. Who are the people that get to make these kinds of decisions that could potentially affect the entire globe?
Not to mention the huge waste of money - 10 billion dollars! Personally, I don’t care how the world started. I am slightly curious, but there are far more important matters that need to be dealt with. If there is 10 billion dollars lying around for scientists to play with, if I had a vote, that money would have paid for the scientists to work on curing cancer and other diseases, finding alternative fuels, ways to have clean water and food in poverty stricken areas, and many other projects that would help improve the quality of life on the planet for everyone.
How do you feel about huge scientific experiments like this that take up so much money? If asked, would you have voted to turn the machine on?

You’re absolutely right.
Why bother the past..I mean it’s better to think about how the world will end rather than how the world was start…

I am totally with you on this issue. My vote would have been a big no.

I agree that there are much better things for scientists to spend their time and money on!
